![]() The story itself is excellent, but the way it’s told and structured is less than elegant. It’s an extremely ambitions and largely accomplishes it’s goals, but this comes at a cost. That said, there’s a reason I’m calling the arc a brilliant mess. It’s character writing is also superb, managing to develop both it’s heroes and it’s villains to a degree rarely seen in this kind of shounen. It’s themes are thought provoking and conveyed almost perfectly. On the thematic side, the arc is untouchable. I’ve spent parts 1 and 2 analyzing just a few of it’s major characters and themes, and there’s still so much more that I didn’t have time to touch on. There’s no question that the Chimera Ant arc deserves a lot of the praise it gets. But no, they had to bring more pouf to the story.Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Hunter x Hunter. They coulda just have Meruem injured and going back to look for Komugi and the same thing woulda happened. What did that bring to the story and all it did was bloody youpi and pouf orgasms. Then they dragged it out even more by about 5 episodes of Meruem trying to regain his memories and that was not necessary at all. Like honestly, they really didnt need to show them that much. However all of this was overshadowed including Gon and Killua scenes by the amount of Pouf, octopus dude, welfin, youpi's crap. I like how he went from a monster to a human who loves Komugi. Meruem vs Netero was cool and after watching the last episode of the arc, my opinion has changed about him. A lot of the focus was on Pouf trying to kill Komugi and Knuckle and Morel's battle vs Youpi and to be honest, it wasn't really entertaining to watch as it was over the course of like 10 episodes. After they infiltrated the palace, there were literally episodes of nothing happening at all with the narrator chatting shyte. I think I don't like this arc very much is due to the fact it feels dragged out. Okay I just finished the Chimera ant arc and have thought about it. Not to mention the good pacing during the first couple of arcs with all the sick battles but during the ant arc, that was taken away by the slow pacing. Hisoka and the phantom troupe on the other hand, was actually very entertaining. ![]() Again, I miss seeing Killua and Gon throughout the second part of the arc and pretty much, the king and the kings guards were the main characters and I didn't really care for them. Meruem was alright but he wasn't interesting at all and is just big OP dude. Like their battles went on for 20 episodes and nothing happened. Like, I actually don't care about Pouf, Youpi, Welfin, Morel but they wouldn't stop showing them. The parts with Gon and Killua were actually really good but that was like 5% of the last 20 episodes I have watched. Also, they kept on focusing on Pouf, Youpi, Knuckle and Morel and barely showed any Killua or Gon. There were literally several episodes where nothing happened and the narrator won't shut the hell up. After they infiltrated the palace, that's when it got even worse. The whole battle with Knuckle and Shoot was in my opinion very boring too much because it just took too long and nothing really resulted from their battles. I liked it when they were still with Kite but as soon as that was over, that's when it started becoming worse and worse. The first half was sooo boring, long, slow and just kinda unnecessary. ![]() So, I've just finished the episode where Gon beats the shyte out of Pitou and not gonna lie, that episode was very good but the majority of the episodes of this arc is really bad.
